Vice President Susan Walker called the April meeting to order on Thursday the 12th at 7:03 pm. President Jon Purmont was not able to attend the meeting.
There were no minutes from the previous meeting.
Sandy gave the Treasurer’s report and it was accepted.
Maureen reported that the Archives Committee is organizing new materials. They have also helped several people who contacted them with inquiries.
Old Business:
The historic plaque program, in conjunction with the Rotary Club, has identified 10 historic houses. Letters have been sent to the owners asking permission to affix a plaque to their property. To date, two owners have replied in the affirmative.
A tree was removed on the front lawn. Speaking of trees, there are several that are on the property line that we share with the condos next door that need attention. Estimates will be gathered.
New Business:
The statewide open house will be on Saturday, June 9. Our theme will be West Haven middle schools.
There is discussion as to whether to revive the Teddy Bear Picnic in conjunction with the Irish-American Club.
There is also a possibility of reviving the lobster bake. Costs for meals will be researched.
The annual graveyard tour will be held the last Saturday in October.
The annual walking tour will be replaced this year with a bus tour.
The proposed flower demo is still in need of a firm date.
The proposed plant night is still in need of a firm date.
The membership was asked for ideas. One member suggested a pizza truck.
Susan mentioned that the Carousel Committee headed by Mike Mecuriano would be hosting a meeting in City Hall on 4/19. The guest speaker will be a couple that helped another community source/re-create a carousel.
Susan also mentioned that the fireworks committee was holding a Comedy Night at St Lawrence School on Saturday 4/14.
Our guest speaker for the evening was Chamber president Alan Olenick. He told us how the DMV came to be in West Haven and he discussed what transactions could be processed there.
