President Jon Purmont called the March meeting to order on Thursday the 14th at 7:00pm.
The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as read. Sandy gave the Treasurer’s report and it was accepted.
Maureen reported that the Archives Committee was busy organizing. They are getting ready for the annual June Open House.
Old Business:
Jon reported that the Soup’s On trivia event was very enjoyable and was a success.
New Business:
The 50-60 foot Norway spruce in the back yard fell in a winter storm. Fortunately, it fell on our property and there was no major damage. Jon approved an emergency expenditure of about $2600.00 for tree and stump removal.
Elections are to be held at the April meeting. Lois and Al are serving as the nominating committee.
Jon noted that the house will need some repairs in the near future. The railing for the steps near Savin Ave needs to be fixed. And the screens on the summer porch need to be replaced, as they sustained damage due to wind.
Jon attended a joint meeting with the historians from Orange and Milford. A future joint meeting with the Milford Historical Society is in the works, date and location to be determined.
The annual museum Open House will be on June 8 this year. The display will have the theme of “Native Americans in West Haven.” It will feature some artifacts from the archeological site here in town.
The annual October walking tour will feature the Elm Street area. This year’s graveyard tour will have a rain date.
The speaker for the evening was member and fire-fighter Bill Heffernan. Bill is the historian of the fire service in West Haven. He spoke on the origin of the 3 fire districts in West Haven.
The meeting was adjourned at 8.08pm.
Respectfully submitted, Lois Dioro
